Privacy

The short version

• No accounts, no newsletter, no advertising networks.
• No cookies are set for visitors, and nothing follows you to other sites.
• The tools run on your own device. Pictures you open in them are never uploaded anywhere.
• Visits are counted in aggregate, so I know which tools people use.
• If you submit a tool, I keep what you typed into that form.

What I actually hold

Very little, and nothing that says who you are:

• Nothing that identifies you as a visitor. No account, no cookie, no profile. Visits are counts. The analytics stores no IP address: it makes a hash of the request to tell a repeat view from a new one, and throws that away within a day.
• What you send me. A tool submission, or an email you write. That is the only part with a name in it, and it is only there because you typed it.
• Server logs, which include IP addresses and are kept briefly by the host as part of serving the site. They are not mine to search and I never look anyone up in them.
• Nothing from the tools. Pictures stay on your device and the settings they remember stay in your browser, where I cannot see them.

When you visit

The site is hosted by Vercel, which receives the requests your browser makes — including your IP address — in order to deliver the pages, and keeps short-lived logs of them.

Visits are measured with Vercel Web Analytics, which is aggregated and does not use cookies or build a profile of you. It records page views and two things beyond that: which tool card or sponsor card was clicked. There is no name attached to any of it, and I cannot tell one visitor from another.

Content and images come from Sanity, the system this site keeps its listings in, and its image CDN serves those pictures to your browser.

The tools

The tools hosted here — Cutout, Trace, Plinth and the rest — run entirely inside your browser. Pictures you drop into them stay on your device, are never sent to a server, and I never see them. Your settings are remembered in your browser’s own storage, which you can clear at any time, and they never leave it.

Two details worth naming, because both involve a request to someone else:

• Cutout downloads its AI model, once, from Hugging Face, which therefore sees that request and your IP address. Your picture is not part of it: the model comes to your device, not the other way round. After the first time, your browser keeps the model.
• The tool pages load their typeface from Google Fonts, so Google sees that request and your IP address. The rest of the site uses a self-hosted font and makes no such request.

If you submit a tool

The submit form asks for the tool’s name, link, a one-line description, categories, pricing, your name, your link, and optionally a screenshot. That goes into Sanity as an unpublished draft, and I read it to decide whether to list the tool. If it is listed, the parts meant to be public — the tool, its description, and your name and link as its maker — appear on the site. Nothing else is published, and none of it is sold or passed to anyone for their own use.

If you email me instead, that email sits in my mailbox like any other. Sponsorship enquiries work the same way: they are arranged by email, and no payment is taken on this site.

Links to other sites

Most listings point at other people’s tools. Those links carry a ?ref=designminis.com tag so the maker can see the visit came from here, which is the same thing your browser’s referrer already says. Once you follow a link, that site’s own privacy policy applies, not this one.

Cookies

This site sets no cookies for visitors, which is why there is no cookie banner asking you to agree to any. The only cookies in play are the ones the content system sets for me when I log in to edit the site at /studio.

The tools do keep things on your own device: the settings you choose, and in Cutout’s case the downloaded model, so it need not be fetched again. That storage stays in your browser, is never sent anywhere, and clearing your browser data removes it.

How long things are kept

Submissions are kept while the listing is live, or until I decide not to list it and delete it. Analytics are aggregate figures with no personal data in them. Hosting logs are kept by Vercel for a short period under their own policy.

Your rights

If you are in the UK or the EU, you have the right to ask what I hold about you, to have it corrected, and to have it deleted. In practice that means a submission you sent, or an email you wrote to me. message me on X and I will do it. You can also complain to your own data protection authority. Design Minis is run from Belgium, whose authority is the Data Protection Authority.

Children

This site is meant for designers and is not directed at children.

Changes

If this changes, the date at the top changes with it. Substantial changes will be obvious on the page rather than buried in it.
